August has been a bountiful month for Newtown Stud graduates particularly when it comes to earning black type.
Appealing set the ball rolling when she finished third in the Group 3 Oak Tree Stakes at Goodwood on the 3rd August. Appealing was broken in and pretrained at Newtown Stud for her owner Yvonne Jacques and she was ridden by Martin Harley and trained by Marco Botti.
Next to step up to the mark was Newtown Stud bred Lottie Dod (Invincible Spirit/Sharapova) who finished third in the Group 1 Phoenix Stakes at the Curragh on 12th August for her owners Mrs Jaqueline O’Brien and Mrs Sue Magnier, her trainer Charles O’Brien and jockey Pat Smullen. Lottie Dod was purchased by Mags O’Toole for €80,000 at the Goffs Orby Yearling Sale.
Grandeur then finished 3rd in the Group 3 Winter Hill Stakes at Windsor on the 23rd August for owner Yvonne Jacques, trainer Jeremy Noseda and jockey William Buick, following on from his impressive victory at Goodwood on the 2nd August. Grandeur was broken in and pretrained at Newtown Stud for his owner Yvonne Jacques.
Three Sea Captains (Choisir/La Tintoretta) rounded off a fantastic month when winning the Listed Curragh Stakes over 5 furlongs at the Curragh for his owners the Ganly Brothers, trainer David Wachman and jockey Wayne Lordan. Three Sea Captains was bred at Newtown Stud and was purchased by David Wachman for €30,000 at the Tattersalls Ireland September Yearling Sale.
